Dentures are incredibly helpful for patients without teeth, but denture slippage is a common problem. Even the best-fitting set of dentures can slip from time to time — especially a bottom set. Denture slippage is frustrating, and it can be embarrassing in social situations. Implant-supported dentures eliminate this problem completely.

Implant-supported dentures are just what the name implies. These dentures are secured to dental implants, which are simply artificial roots. Patients may have the option to have their implant-supported dentures be either “fixed” or “removable.” “Fixed” means the implant-supported dentures can only be removed by a dentist. “Removable” implies that patients can take out the dentures for sleeping and cleaning. Either way, it’s almost impossible for them to slip.

The Implant-Supported Dentures Process

Patients will need anywhere from 2 to 8 implants to stabilize their dentures. Typically, lower and “removable” require fewer implants than upper and “fixed.” If you choose to receive implant-supported dentures, Dr. Hanlon will be with you from start to finish — from placing the necessary dental implants to delivery of the final prosthesis. Implant-supported dentures are a game changer for those struggling with denture mobility, or for those looking for the most ideal solution for replacing their natural teeth.
